Funding of prevention measures to protect livestock
The Free State of Saxony provides funds for prevention measures taken to protect sheep and goats as well as game in enclosures. These can be applied for by persons keeping animals as a hobby and by animal keepers running a full-time or part-time agricultural business ("hobby keepers" included) from the whole Free State of Saxony. The funding territory has been extended to the whole of Saxony because it is expected that wolves will also recolonise regions where they have not been present permanently hitherto.
The acquisition of the following herd protection means is eligible for funding:
- - Mobile electric fencing
- - Tape fencing (barrier tape to prevent wolves from jumping over the fence)
- - Livestock guardian dogs
- - Means of preventing wolves from digging underneath fences and other enclosures (incl. installation services)
Financial support is given in the form of subsidising part of the cost eligible for funding of any of the aforementioned measures (item A 4, E "Projects to prevent wolf damage", "Natural heritage" funding directive). The funding rate is 80 % of the expenditure eligible for funding (of the net amount). The State Office for the Environment, Agriculture and Geology (LfULG) is the authority responsible for subsidy authorisation.
